CIDKP Prepares To Assist Refugees As Aid To Camps Ends

Aug 18, 2025

CIDKP recently learned that all residual aid to Karen refugee camps along the Thai-Myanmar border is ending soon. Most aid is ending as of August 2025, while some aid for the most vulnerable groups will be disbursed until December 2025. Due to the lack of funds, many refugees may be forced to leave. CIDKP has learned that some will be admitted into Thailand as migrant laborers, while a small number will be resettled in third countries. Many, however, must return to Karen State in Myanmar. In many cases, refugees who have lived in the camps for decades do not have homes to return to, so CIDKP must help them find safe places to live, in coordination with local partners.

These refugees will require large amounts of assistance for basic needs such as food and shelter, along with long-term assistance to resume their livelihoods. CIDKP is preparing to assist these refugees and is calling on international donors to provide support.
